I’m currently in Tasmania, and the weather is fairly cool—it’s a perfect blend of cool mist and splashes of sunshine. This weather is making it ideal for my watercolour painting.
I usually start by applying a thin layer of raw sienna on a very wet piece of paper. This provides a solid base for my washes. Once the sienna is dry, I switch to lighter washes with ultramarine blue and cobalt blue. The cooler temperature of cobalt adds another range of depth.
When it comes to painting the hills, I begin with a touch of darker colours like Pthalo blue (green shade) and red cadmium. This combination creates a mysterious blue that can be washed with water to achieve a lovely grey effect or made more medium to give a deep, dark grey with a greenish tint.
It’s such a joy to be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Tasmania while creating my artwork. I can’t wait to share my creations with you all!
